Your homepage meta title should never say “Home.” Put your keyword and city in it. Front-load the keyword — terms at the front carry more weight.

Why Meta Titles Matter

Meta titles are one of the strongest on-page SEO signals. They tell Google what your page is about and appear in search results.

How to Fix Your Meta Titles

Homepage

  • Bad: “Home | My Business”
  • Good: “Boiler Installation Manchester | My Business”

Service Pages

  • Bad: “Our Services”
  • Good: “Emergency Plumber in Stockport | 24/7 Service”

Location Pages

  • Bad: “Areas We Serve”
  • Good: “Plumber in Salford | Same Day Service”

Rules to Follow

  1. Front-load the keyword. Put your primary keyword at the start.
  2. Include the city. Always include your target location.
  3. Keep it under 60 characters. Google truncates longer titles.
  4. Make it unique. Every page should have a different title.
  5. Include your brand. Put it at the end, separated by a pipe.

UK-Specific Tips

  • Use UK spelling (optimise, not optimize)
  • Include county names if relevant
  • Use local terminology
